Contemporary for the Price of Pop - Can It Be Done?
I recently saw an outrageous half off your Disney vacation claim online that was obviously click bait because I assure you, that's a deal Disney will never offer, but it got me thinking about what kind of a spin they could be putting on a public offer. I decided to run some numbers. I wasn't even trying for half off, but I decided to see if there was a way to get a deluxe resort vacation in the same ballpark as a value resort vacation. Guess what? That can be done ... sort of. Now it's not an apples to apples comparison in reality because I'm comparing a discounted deluxe vacation to a non-discounted value vacation, and you should be able to get a similar but lesser offer at a value resort for the same time period. But there is still some validity in the exercise. If you're the type of person who has always wanted to stay at a monorail resort, for instance, but have more of a Pop Century budget, read on because you may be surprised.
I used a 6-night stay in September for a family of 3 with 4-day park hopper tickets and Disney Dining Plan for my example. Now, it requires getting a bit creative - this is not a straightforward line up of costs through Disney themselves, but for those wanting to take that leap without gutting the bank account ...
Contemporary garden wing garden view vacation package with room discount: $4,286.64

Pop Century preferred pool view vacation package: $3,606.49

Once again, if you're the type of person who wants the lowest possible price for your vacation overall, then you'd obviously take the same savings strategy I applied to the deluxe vacation and apply it to your value vacation, but if you're accustomed to a full price value package and would love to make that leap to a deluxe package, there ya go! Experiment complete. It can be done. Still no idea what that half off nonsense was about though.
