All the Eats at Universal's Mardi Gras
Disney isn't the only place to indulge in festive fare! The party's at Universal this February 9th through April 4th as New Orleans rolls into Universal for their Mardi Gras celebration. With nightly parades featuring outrageous street performers, colorful costumes, beads flying through the air, big name live music select nights, authentic New Orleans bands every night, and exclusive food and drink options, it's a fantastic time to be at Universal Orlando!
Universal is taking a queue from Disney's highly successful festivals at EPCOT, offering tasting sizes for everything this year, which means that much more you can sample. Staring at 4pm daily, there will be new and returning favorites offered in the French Quarter Courtyard (in the New York area) at Universal Studios. Let's dive into the dishes you can't resist ...
Etoufee is a spicy Cajun stew with vegetables and in this case, rice and crab.
Catfish Po Boy
Fried catfish po boy with a crisp slaw and hot sauce, served with kettle chips. Also new is the shrimp and andouille sausage or chicken po boy.
King Cake (pictured at top)
King cake is made of a rich brioche dough, usually with filling and sometimes a small plastic baby inside. It's a New Orleans tradition where the person who gets the baby is either treated like royalty for the day or must host the next party.
Red Beans and Rice (available without shrimp)
Jumbalaya (available without shrimp)
Squares of fried dough, eaten hot, with a healthy sprinkling of powdered sugar.
Gumbo and twisted taters with a new Cajun seasoning twist will also be available.
Specialty drinks available in the French Quarter:
- Mimosa bar
- Signature drink: Bayou Bog Water is a non-alcoholic drink with gummy worms and fish, blueberry boba balls, and a lemonade/ginger ale mix.
- Carnival Cocktail
- Ragin' Rumbalaya
- Vicious Voodoo (combo of the two above)
- Variety of craft beer options
Best of all, it's all included with your admission to the park!
